You're never too old to become a doctor. ✅ Agree??⁣ ⁣ I remember back in February I posted an image with this same sentence—"You're not too old for medical school"—and several people commented saying they felt like it was a sign because they'd been worrying so much about that exact issue.⁣ ⁣ I even hear from students who are still in their 20s who are concerned about being too old for  #medschool. ⁣ ⁣ You're NOT too old!⁣ ⁣ I've interviewed multiple  #medstudents in their 50s on The Premed Years! It happens!⁣ ⁣ I've also mentioned a statistic on here a few times, which says that about 10 to 12 students over 50 start medical school each year. Each year!⁣ ⁣ Bottom line: What med schools care about is whether you'll make a good physician and take good care of patients. Not your age. ⁣ ⁣ Your age won't stop you from becoming a doctor. ⁣ ⁣ Your unique perspective and story as an older student may even be a boost to your application. ⁣ For more about this, check out the link in my bio to episode 2 of the OldPreMeds Podcast! (That page also has links to the interviews I've done with med students over 50, parents in med school, and more.)

WHITE COAT CEREMONY ~ I solemnly pledge to consecrate my life to the service of humanity - I will practice medicine with conscience and dignity - The health and life of my patient will be my first consideration - I will hold in confidence all that my patient confides in me - I will maintain the honor and noble traditions of the medical profession - I will give respect and gratitude to my deserving teachers - My colleagues will be as my family - I will not permit personal considerations to interfere with my duty to my patients - I will maintain the utmost respect for human life - Even under threat, I will not use my knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity - These promises I make freely and upon my honor - . . . The gen chem class where I got a C? Worth it. The tears I shed when my physiology teacher wouldn’t round my grade .07 and I was convinced I was done for? Worth it. The 8 months of MCAT study which ultimately led to a mediocre score? Worth it. The Fourth of July I spent doing an ELISA all day in the lab just to trip before imaging? Worth it. The first time I drew blood on a patient and was so humiliated because it took 4 needle sticks? Worth it. The 3 hour round trip commute to work each day for a year? Worth it. To follow your passion, join a noble profession, and dedicate your life to the wellbeing of others is worth it in every sense. I cannot wait for the incredible adventures, tears, and awe-inspiring moments over the next 4 years ❤️  #MDclassof2023

What is/was your major??⁣ ⁣ Premeds always ask about the best major to help them get into medical school.⁣ ⁣ But there's no "best"  #premed major for everyone.⁣ ⁣ As long as you cover your med school prerequisites, you can really choose anything.⁣ ⁣ The best choice for YOU is a major that excites and interests you. Because then you'll want to spend the hours really crushing it and going above and beyond with the classes and projects you take on. ⁣ ⁣ Being passionate about your major can also help you shine in your med school interviews.⁣ ⁣ If you're still not sure what to choose, check out the link in my bio. It's a podcast episode I did with my wife Allison (also Dr. Gray) on the "Pros and Cons of the Liberal Arts for Premeds."⁣ ⁣ But don't forget to comment first with your major or what you're considering! It'll be interesting to see which majors are represented! ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ —⁣  #medical  #medlife  #usmle  #doctorsofinstagram  #futuredoctors  #medicalfield  #physicians  #instadoctor  #premedlife  #futureMD  #usmlestep1  #futurePA  #futuredoc  #studentdoctor  #futuresurgeon  #instamedicine  #doctorintraining  #docsofinsta  #medicalscience  #medicalcollege  #osteopathic  #futurephysician  #premedmotivation  #medschoolbound  #medicaldoctors  #medicalmeme  #futuremedicalstudent  #premedgrind  #premedadvice

I feel like every few years, the Lord shakes up my life and causes me to grow up a little bit. Causes another transition for me to endure. People come and go. New responsibilities. Things happen. At the end of the day, I am left with me. Not saying I have to go through this journey in life by myself. What I mean is, you have to become comfortable by yourself. You have to be able to thrive by yourself. I think that begins in believing in your inner self to endure all things • I’ve been self reflecting a lot this month. I am reminded of all that I have overcome and all that I have accomplished in 27 years of life. I am proud of who I am alone. I have also become super aware of my flaws - easily frustrated, impatient, anxious, etc. growth is being able to recognize both. Things you are proud of and things you are not so proud of. Growth is working on those flaws - they won’t completely disappear (especially not in a day) but we must learn to minimize them and channel them to something positive • I turn 28 in 8 days and it’s taken me this long to realize these things. So for those of you going through a transition, use it as a self reflection. Ask yourself why you are going through this. And how you can come out on top. Mentally conquering things allows for the physical aspect to become easier. Sending everyone love and positivity this Saturday 💕

From my vast experience completing a whole week of medical school orientation, here are a few things I would have found useful tidbits of information as a premed: 1. Residency applications take into account all the stuff you did as premed. So all the thousands of volunteer hours you’re doing and any research you’re publishing goes on your applications. BLESSED. 2. Oh and BTW, apparently residency applications call anything a ‘research publication’ (posters, oral presentations, epubs, articles, book chapters, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.) So don’t feel like all the work you’re doing is ONLY for med school. It will make your life easier forever to do research sooner! 3. Medical school like teaches all the stuff you learn in undergrad but at 10,000x speed. Basically the point of this point is to tell you that you’re not taking physiology and biochemistry for no reason. TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. 4. Please do some shadowing, not because it’s required, but because having some realm of interest in some type of medicine is actually very useful. You’ll be bombarded with specialties and interest groups and clinics once you’re in med school. If you don’t even know where to start you’re gonna be overwhelmed. So, as a premed, do some shadowing in order to get a general idea of some areas of medicine you like! 5. “Your study habits are 100% going to change.” Honestly, my undergrad study habits should have changed back then lol. If something isn’t working (like you’re doing poorly in classes) then the way you are studying is WRONG for you. So change it and figure out what works. 6. Your health and wellness comes before EVERYTHING. I wish I could tell poor MCAT-Abi this. If you’re not taking care of your body and mind, your studying will suffer with it. The best way to increase your efficiency is to ensure your happiness and wellbeing in general FIRST. Wow. So much knowledge and literally none of it is mine, I credit it all to the 35 hours of orientation at my school! << Was actually a very effective, organized, and informative transition week — highly impressed and so excited for Monday! >>

ICU FELLOWSHIP LIFESTYLE Most people do not equate a career in critical care with being a “lifestyle” specialty. That is absolutely true. But everything in life is relative and after residency, I think almost *anything* is better 😂...so long and short of it, my current ICU fellowship lifestyle is much better. . ▫️ I’ll do a separate post about what exactly a critical care anesthesia fellowship entails, but I got a specific question on a story sticker about my lifestyle in the ICU and thought I’d take a moment to explain how my current fellowship schedule is setup. 📌 We do mostly shift work - days are 7a-5p and nights are 5p-7a. Some weekends there are 24 hour shifts sprinkled in. 📌 Per the ACGME, we are required to have a minimum of 9 months in an ICU [unlike medical pulmonology/critical care fellowships, which are 3 years long, anesthesia critical care is only 1 year total]. This leaves 3 months for elective time; at our program, we have a lot of flexibility to decide how to spend our elective time, which typically comes in weeklong stretches. . 📌 We get 4 weeks of vacation and 5 meeting days. 📌 I typically spend ~30-60 minutes reading up on the patients before my shift starts in order to make handoffs more efficient. . ▫️ How tiring a shift is really varies on the acuity of the patients in the unit, level of training of the residents/NPs/PAs we are working with, and how long rounds take. ▫️ What other questions do you have about the ICU fellowship lifestyle? Do you have any questions about being in the ICU? Look out for a future post on what we do as ICU fellows! ▫️ 📸: this was snapped randomly during an overnight shift; yup, I’m always smiling 😊 ▫️  #iculife  #anesthesia  #anesthesiology  #medicine  #doctorsofinstagram  #doctor  #oncall  #lifestyle  #residency  #fellowship  #monday  #mondaymotivation  #medschool  #premed  #medstudent  #premedmotivation  #physicianassistant  #nursepractitioner

How do you progress in domains you’d like to?♾ . It’s hard to evaluate progress since it’s very subjective and complicated to associate a classification to. Everyone experiences progress in a different way and I find it interesting to point out that progress should be seen as evolution, and evolution is a term that takes in to account getting better or getting worst at something. ☯️I think it’s important for people to acknowledge the fact that getting “worst” at something is maybe not a failure but maybe just a way to take a step back on what you’re doing and reflecting on wether it’s made for you or not, or a way to show yourself you really want it; so a source of motivation. ➡️For me, progress is just a word that resumes self discipline, motivation, and all the other values you need to get yourself to the point you want to get to. So the real talk here is about those values. In order to evolve you need to see what you’re doing as a passion and you need to learn to love the process. It’s a hard thing to do because we tend to always opt for the simple path to stay in our comfort zone. It’s harder than it seems to place yourself in to the future and look back to where you’re now and tell yourself what you’d like to be done. You can see it as a form of self care, may it be physical or emotional or mental. ✅The reason I wanted to talk about these values is because I feel like people who spend the whole year in tough schools always need to tend and push to their limits, and the things that saves us are these values and our capacity to look further than we are used to. So keep in mind next time you’re hesitating wether or not to go for something, always project yourself, you’ll be using one of the special qualities we have acquired as humans, to your advantage🤷‍♀️ . . .  #meditation  #med  #medstudent  #medschool  #medschoollife  #student  #photography  #photooftheday  #picoftheday  #scrubslife  #work  #medicine  #university  #motivation  #inspiration  #doctorlife  #medgram  #premed  #studyspo  #paces  #premedlife  #bujo  #studymotivation  #motivationtostudy  #notes  #studynotes  #instagood  #instadaily  #tbt

CONSTRUCT: What is this person in the photo. Apart from cells and moving mass?. Are they Sad? Diabetic? Arthritic?- Brave? 💖 What makes this human what it is?: Size? Emotions? Actions?... Can we ever really see the construct of a human being in one quick glance?. No. You can’t. Cut a human body and you can see it’s internal content. Do a blood test and you can see the bio markers. Do an X-ray and you can see the still of body mechanics. Ask a human the right questions and you can see/hear/feel their emotions. Observe a human long enough and you can see their habits. You can see into a human in many different ways. We all see the human quite differently dependant on the sense that’s being used. It is an art to be able connect with a human through multiple levels and know their constructs well. I know a few amazing humans that can do this. I use to look at myself and not know what the hell I was. I saw something else other than what my soul was and wished to be on the outside. Now: The body can change, yes. My beautiful scars remind me of this everyday. However, it is just one component to the construct. The mind must be ready. Everything else needs to catch up or follow side by side for a construct of strength. Thought patterns and mindsets are just as valuable to the human as only just the perfection to the physical structure. It’s a marry of multiple constructs and facets. The woman I now see in the mirror has a purpose. Brand new mountains. ⛰ Somehow-Someday-Somewhere. Your purpose is possible. 💖 find it 💖 .... no matter what needs to be done to find yourself- do it.  #helpeachother  #purpose  #weightloss  #study  #weightlossjourney  #workhard  #change  #dralexphoon✨  #parkclinicdocs  #excessskinremoval  #gamsat  #premed  #brain  #mindset  #motivation  #sydneyaustralia  #neuroscience  #lawschool  #medschool  #extremeweightloss  #powerlifting  #powerliftingwomen

Octreotide is a synthetic somatostatin analogue that resembles the native polypeptide in its activity in suppressing levels and activity of growth hormone, insulin, glucagon and many other gastrointestinal peptides. Because its half-life is longer than somatostatin, octreotide can be used clinically to treat neuroendocrine tumors that secrete excessive amounts of growth hormone (acromegaly) or other active hormones or neuropeptides. Octreotide has many side effects including suppression of gall bladder contractility and bile production, and maintenance therapy can cause cholelithiasis, pancreatitis as well as clinically apparent liver injury. . . . .  #mnemonics  #medmnemonics  @dr.kumar_harish . . .  #octreotide  #pharmacology  #drugs  #pharmacy  #pharmacist  #usmle  #acromegaly  #usmlestep1  #usmlestep2  #doctor  #doctorslife  #doctordconline  #mbbs  #md  #medicine  #medlife  #medschool  #medstudent  #nhs  #nurse  #nursing  #amc  #plab  #premed  #mcat

It has been almost two years since I've done a  #myrasmondaybookclub and now I'm bringing it back 🥰 Each Monday, I'll post a book I'm reading, and when I have finished I'll post up the review on my website. (When my website is up and running🌻) This week I'm reading Moby Dick, and I'm in love with the writing. Herman Melville is a brilliant storyteller - although with 135 chapters in the book it's going to take a more then a week to read. 😂😂 I hope everyone has a brilliant week 😻

Vacation!! 🙌🙌🙌 The last few days I’ve been visiting a friend in Minneapolis. Its the first time this summer that I’ve been able to take time off between work and school and it’s been so nice to just relax after the craziness of the last few months. It’s always hard on vacation though to feel like you’re letting loose maybe just a little too much- indulging in food and drink, not being able to get in a solid workout, and traveling. I’m here to be your reminder that to everything there is a season: it’s okay to let loose, during vacation, weddings, special occasions, etc. It’s okay to eat local food and forego a traditional workout for walking and sightseeing. Whether you’re in a positive place with your body before your trip or not, your body still does so much for you and enables you to enjoy those once-in-a-lifetime memories. I tell you this not because I think you need to hear it but because I definitely do. And if this reminder reaches just one more person out there, then I’m glad I opened up. . . .  #normalizenormalbodies  #dptdreams  #dpt  #physicaltherapy  #pt  #prept  #spt  #prehealth  #premed  #vacation  #travel  #college  #student  #joyfulmovement  #daretobeactive  #choosept  #chooseptfirst

Rest 😴 Recharge 🔌 Reconnect 🌊 _________________________________________________________________ I don’t take my days off during rotations because I like to stay consistent to my goals and my studying schedule but once in a while I do like to get a day off the books, explore, and be with amazing people ❤️ it’s just good for the SOUL 💫 even though I felt like I was getting a heat stroke exploring Austin and Corpus Christi it was refreshing to explore another city and not studying in my normal study spot, aka my desk 🤓 and get a break from the gym grind for a bit! Instead I got to study while traveling; in the airport, in the plane, and in between car rides. Sometimes you have to be willing to change scenery and do what you can with whatever time you got ❤️💫✈️📚  #BackToInternalMedicine  #travelLife • • • •  #physicianassistant  #palife  #professionals  #medelita  #didactic  #physicianassistant  #pastudent  #medelita  #labcoat  #whitecoat  #palife  #physicianassistantstudent  #didactic  #didacticyear  #medicine  #healthcare  #professionals  #nhsc  #balance  #gym  #travel  #pastudent  #clinicals  #rotations  #myjourney  #thankful  #blessed  #medical  #medlife  #premed  #pediatrics  #gymtime  #pensacola

Long weekend of work bathroom selfie coming at cha! Today was one of those eerily slow days in the ED but somehow I still managed getting out two hours late followed by an hour of traffic 🙈 I hope the rest of the weekend warriors get a good night’s sleep. A sweet throwback to dorm life, these little guys were Raj’s 🐢 dinner 🍽 , the circle of life friends. ________________________________________ Part 2/3: Bringing home glory & honour ✨ It doesn’t mean you love or respect them any less, it simply means you will bring glory and honour through a new avenue. Your talents, dreams and abilities are valid, more then you will ever know. By allowing someone to dictate your abilities, you are not only settling for less within your own life but you contributing to a never ending cycle that creates a toxic norm for others. 🔄 The state of the art truth is that you can bring glory and honour through your passions and talents. You were gifted a unique spark to thrive in those areas for a reason, it was no mistake ♥️ So why waste precious time & ability continuing a path that is setting you up for burnout? 🙃 • • •  #stemblogger  #chic  #chasinglight  #blogger  #bloggerstyle  #torontoblogger  #uofguelph  #womeninstem  #lifestyleblogger  #university  #pets  #motivation  #picoftheday  #stemgirls  #womenwhoexplore  #bloggerlife  #dormroom  #mytinymoments  #pinterest  #premed  #student  #summerlove  #liveauthentic  #aesthetic  #womenwholead  #createyourlife  #reslife  #livingmybestlife  #lifestyleblogger  #girlsthatlift  #activeliving

Drainage of abscess in the breast resulting from a picture of mastitis. . . The abscess is the accumulation of pus caused by a bacterial infection. Drainage of skin abscess is considered a simple surgical procedure, but that implies the need for technical-scientific knowledge mainly in the identification of possible false abscesses. The recognition of other structures similar to skin abscesses and their differential diagnosis requires scientific knowledge normally not contextualized in nursing graduation courses. In addition, knowledge about surgical and suturing techniques is needed mainly in major abscesses where the dead space, which remains after the exit by the expression of the purulent content of the abscess requires raffias and, in some cases, the insertion of materials of surgical filling. All this requires the health professional who is acting the specific knowledge that does not appear in the contents of most of the graduation courses, therefore the DOCTOR is the professional who can perform the procedure, so it is forbidden for nurses. . : Thank You For Showing Your Support With PayPal Donation  @medicosity 😇 We Run On Your Support And Love For Medicine! : follow  @medicosity if you haven't yet! “That’s just the way it is.” - said everyone who never had a vision….⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was having a conversation with Dallas this weekend about getting “older” because both of us couldn’t believe we were turning 25 this year. He was telling me about a podcast that he was listening to where they were discussing the different age benchmarks and what kinds of things in your life go downhill as you get older. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It got me thinking about all of the “adulting” memes that I see all the time.....and they all usually have something to do with not having enough time, always worrying about money, being exhausted and hating your job, laughing about how unhealthy you are, etc. etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get that the memes are “funny” and are supposed to help everybody feel like they are not alone in their adulting struggles….but honestly I really hate them. Because it reinforces the idea that our job as humans is to go to school, get a job that takes over our life, complain about how much money we don’t have, then die. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Is that REALLY what we believe this life is supposed to be? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was so afraid to invest in this business because I didn’t have the money….and then it turned out to be the thing that helped me have MORE money. I was so afraid of taking time to do this because I thought I already didn’t have enough time…..and now it is turning into the thing that it going to allow me to have MORE time in my life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favorite people to hang out with are the ones that believe in MORE for their lives. The ones that are going to take the RISKS to go against the norm of adulting and realize that life CAN be better - if we just took half the time we spend COMPLAINING about our life, and put it towards CHANGING our life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am running my  #FindYourFire open house this week, & at the end I will be selecting 10 WOMEN to work closely with to build your business and brand. HYPE WOMAN + MENTOR RIGHT HERE FOR YA. Follow  @findyourfireempire to join the workshop and learn more about this opportunity that shifted the way my team chooses to live their life & see if going against the norm is for you too 🔥

Regresando a los repasos de contabilidad, utilicé los marcadores pastel de  @grupoazormexico En el set de dos, en el cual venían el verde y el rosa, tienen colores muy claritos y lindos. Ustedes ¿qué marcador pastel usan? Me encantaría probar algunos. MATERIALES: ▫️ Prismacolor Punta Pincel (negro y gris) ▫️Azor Vision Plus Pastel Verde ▫️Bolígrafo Gel Youmei 0,5 ▫️Bolígrafo gel blanco y plata. ▫️Libreta 100 hojas marca U-PAK gramaje 56g/m2. . . .  #studygram  #study  #studyblr  #motivation  #student  #bujo  #studying  #studymotivation  #bulletjournal  #studentlife  #studyspo  #college  #notes  #medicine  #planneraddict  #premed  #planner  #stationery  #plannercommunity  #inspiration  #school  #university  #education  #coffee  #studyinspo  #aesthetic  #photography  #studytips  #mcat  #collegelife
